P-Valley Is Unapologetically Q***r And You Need To Get Over It - Blavity A few weeks prior, social media users found themselves in a frenzy over a steamy s*x scene on the hit Starz series P-Valley. When Lil Murda (played by J. Alphonse Nicholson) took Big Teak (played by John Clarence Stewart) on a passionate journey to s*xual bliss, he took us, too. Most fans praised th...

Join the 10A team and Social Action Archive Committee members THIS SATURDAY, April 30 at 1:30pm EST, who will lead us in a workshop using AIDS activist, writer, and photographer Ron Simmons’ seminal work, Torch’72 as a touchstone for the lineage and potential of individual stories and collective actions.

Together we reinterpret the very values espoused in Ron Simmons’ 1972 yearbook through the lens of our own lived experiences: How do we develop our own unique voices as makers, artists, writers and therefore, as protestors? How does voice evolve over time? How does our protest follow?

Hard Copies of Torch’72 will be provided in the space for IRL participants to look through during the workshop and digital copies will be made available to digital participants. Come curious — we’ll provide the rest.

We wondered–– Exactly what constitutes “knowledge?” How is it shared and who gets to pass it down? And just what is a semester? A unit of learning? That can be accredited to an institution of “higher learning?” Is that even the destination? How do we center love and care en route to “understanding” through our learnings? And of equal importance, where and how do we make room for debate within our communities?

These questions and more, we’re exploring with that same black q***r magic, though big-bold learning engagements created for and by us. From Archiving and Memory Work (May) to New Q***r Economies: From Climate Change to Crypto (August) to the formation of 10A’s first intergenerational Debate Team (Summer), join us to see what our q***r vision for disrupting “higher education” looks like for the 21st Century.

Registration is now open for our first course, Publishing and A History of Black Q***r Protest, at www.10a.online, and heads up––at our 10A HQ in Hudson, New York––the doors are always open. (So pop on by!)
