When people hear my story, their first response is always, "I'm so sorry that happened to you". I thank them for their kindness but I am not sorry. I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason. If that concussion didn't happen, I wouldn't have reprioritized my health, family, and friends, and had the courage to do something very risky to leave my corporate job to start my business. That's why you'll see every dessert has a name. This is a journey for me and one I know I never would've been able to take on my own. Everyone who was part of the journey with me is a very important part of the story because I would not be here without you. Words can't begin to describe how grateful I am to everyone who was there and believed in me when I didn't always believe in myself.

I'll also take this time to thank my incredible customers. You all have showed such kindness and welcomed me with open arms. Even the smallest gesture of waving as you walk by brings a smile to my face and reminds me of why this is all worth it.

I'd be remiss if I also didn't thank NYU Langone Health’s Concussive Center who quite literally taught me how to walk again. Being so close to you is such a blessing as I get to meet others in various stages of recovery. A concussion is so hard to explain unless you've been through it, so please reach out if you need someone to talk to. My dessert shop has warm lower lights just for you :)

Many of you have asked what exactly does Baker's Recovery mean, so I thought it was time to tell you about my unconventional journey to where I am today.

Baker's Recovery doesn't reflect the desserts (parents, it's safe for your kids) but more the story of how I pivoted from corporate to start my own business. When I graduated college, I had a very specific goal in mind. I worked my whole career towards this and finally got everything I wanted. Or more aptly put, thought I wanted. I quickly realized that I was good at what I did but I wasn't fulfilled. However, it's very hard to walk away from the stability, title, and all the investment working towards this one thing pretty much my whole adult life. I felt very stuck and lost because I didn't know what I could do other than that.

Then, life threw me a curveball. I suffered a concussion from martial arts where I had to stay in dark room, learn to walk again, could not look at screens, and was completely isolated except for my doctors and specialists for months. I tell people that this was more than just an injury. It was a loss of identity, sense of safety, and independence. I went from being a workaholic, training, and competing to not even being to walk outside by myself. The only thing I could do while alone in a literal dark place that I could do before my injury that truly brought me joy was to bake. Baking made me feel like myself again. My body finally remembered how to do something, and I could be creative, so I was using my brain, even if it wasn't in the same way as before. This provided so much comfort as no one could tell me if my brain was ever going to be the same again. I previously worked in business intelligence and analytics. I couldn't even look at my phone long enough to make calls let alone complete deep analysis. What would I do if I couldn't return to work? Would I ever be the same again? Baking slowly chipped away at those fears and became my therapy to regain my life back.
