Japanese Language Program at Lehman College, the City University of New York

Our students in the Japanese Program and Hanamaru Club volunteered to host two activity tables at Bunkasai@Hunter, an annual Japanese Cultural Festival for the high school students studying Japanese in NYC and other nearby communities. Our tables hosted the Kitkat flavor guessing game, which was very popular last year, so we doubled the fun this year!

Nearly 500 high school students participated in the event, with close to 200 volunteers and staff. It was wonderful to see so many students excited to learn Japanese. Hopefully some of them will come to Lehman to continue their study of Japanese😊

Ten Lehman students participated in a unique summer study abroad program that combined Collaborative Online Learning with immersive, hands-on research in Japan. 🇯🇵

Run in partnership with Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU), students collaborated online in groups with their Japanese OMU peers to develop research projects related to Japanese culture and history. “When we actually go to Japan, each group goes on self-planned research trips to learn more about their topic,” said Asako Tochika, Japanese language professor at Lehman.
