Have you ever noticed kratom products sitting near the register at a gas station or convenience store? Our Director of Policy, Robyn Oster, joined Bill Williams on The Kingfisher Project WJFF Radio Catskill to explain what's actually in them, and why the lack of oversight is a growing concern.

A few highlights from their conversation:

• Nearly 2 million Americans reported using kratom in 2024, and it's often marketed as a natural wellness supplement – even though it can produce harmful effects, including addiction.
• Newer, more concentrated synthetic versions of kratom's active compound (7-OH) are showing up on shelves.
• Robyn pointed out a pattern we've seen play out before, with opioids and THC products alike: heavy marketing, "it's natural" messaging that downplays real risk, and a regulatory response that's lagged behind.

Her takeaway: if these products are to remain legal on store shelves, they need real oversight – clear labeling, accurate dosing information, and strong protections to keep them away from kids.

Thank you to Bill Williams and WJFF Radio Catskill for having Robyn on the show. The full conversation is worth your time – link below. 🎧 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgTflgi88BQ
