Here are 3️⃣ of our recommendations on how to improve schools for LGBTQ+ students, based on the findings from our 2025 National School Climate Survey.
Consistent with past National School Climate Survey findings, students in schools with comprehensive policies were more likely to look forward to school, feel a stronger sense of belonging, skip fewer days of school due to safety concerns, and report less LGBTQ+based harassment than youth in schools with partial or generic policies.
Looking for ways to use your voice to improve schools? Take or share our latest NSCS! We are looking for LGBTQIA2S students 13 years or older, who attended school in the United States in 2023-2025. This study helps our crucial work to make recommendations to schools, politicians, researchers, and more on ways to improve schools for LGBTQ+ students across the country. Visit glisten.org/nscs27 to learn more and take the survey.

Safety is the bare minimum requirement for students in schools, and if LGBTQ+ students feel unsafe, things need to change.
In focus groups from our recent National School Climate Survey results, LGBTQ+ students shared their experiences in schools, what made them feel unsafe, and how we could help improve things.
From informing policy change to helping us create inclusive resources, LGBTQ+ students integral to Glisten's work to make schools safer and more affirming LGBTQ+ young people.

Today is Day of Silence, a national day of action centered around remaining silent in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ students across the country that are silenced every day. Your silence today is a powerful statement that shows how without the voices of these young people, our world loses the diversity of perspectives that makes our communities great.
Tune into our Fireside Chat at the end of the day to break the silence. Here, students and adults will come together to reflect on the day, talk about what national organization can accomplish, and share their thoughts about how we can make schools better for LGBTQ+ students.
The video will premiere on our YouTube channel at 4pm PT / 5pm MT / 6pm CT / 7pm ET. Hit the bell next to the video title to get notified when it premieres!
