If you’re a newer follower, you may not know that I have the design patent for the vinyl siding adapter. It was a need I saw to make installing more efficient for myself. It’s been a roller coaster of a journey that’s had its ups and downs. No matter whether it’s an up or a down, I will always know that I personally made a difference in the siding industry and have helped at least a few hundred people be more efficient on the job site. This is the vertical adapter for the Milwaukee cordless roofing nailer. It makes installing board and batten or vertical siding more ergonomic.

Plywood Gusset Connections for a Timber Roof Truss

This technical illustration details the design and specific dimensions of plywood gusset plates used to connect individual members of a 26-foot-long timber roof truss. It highlights the orientation of the face grain, nail spacing, and dimensions required at critical structural joints—such as the heel, peak, splices, and internal webs—to ensure the overall assembly can properly handle structural loads. This diagram serves as a construction or fabrication guide to ensure uniform strength and compliance with a 4:12 roof slope design.

Key Components

Truss Span and Slope: The complete assembly spans 26'-0" from heel to heel and features a standard 4:12 pitch, defining the overall geometry of the roof support system.

Heel Joint (A): The lower outer connection where the top chord and bottom chord meet, utilizing a gusset plate with a 19-inch horizontal base and horizontal face grain orientation.

Peak Gusset (B): The topmost connection joining the two sloped top chords, measuring 12 inches in height and 24 inches across the bottom, featuring horizontal face grain and a specification to space nails 3 inches on center (O.C.).

Web-to-Top Chord Connection (C): A localized joint where an internal diagonal web member connects perpendicularly to the sloped top chord, using a gusset plate measuring 9½ inches along the web.

Bottom Chord Splice (D): A central inline connection joining two pieces of the bottom chord, reinforced with a 19-inch long, 9½-inch high gusset plate with horizontal face grain and 3-inch O.C. nail spacing.

Web-to-Bottom Chord Connection (E): A multi-member junction where two diagonal internal webs meet the horizontal bottom chord, secured by a 19-inch wide, 9½-inch high gusset plate with horizontal face grain.

Overall Interpretation

The illustration provides a comprehensive blueprint for fabricating strong, standardized joints within a traditional wood truss system using nailed plywood gussets. By explicitly defining dimensions, nail patterns, and the precise horizontal orientation of the plywood's face grain at each major junction, the design ensures optimal shear strength and structural integrity across the entire 26-foot span.
