Remember when Instagram used to be about taking it slow, soaking it in, sharing those small moments and snapshots of a day in the life or a project on the bench? You know, before the 60 second hyper-sped time lapsed videos that make us feel like we’re rushing through it all … life, projects, relationships. We rush now because if don’t than an algorithm will tell us we’re not doing enough, not growing enough.

Things used to feel so much simpler.

I’ve been trying to figure out what I want my resolution to be this year. Which is always a strange thing for me because the reality is that we can choose to start over and make new resolutions whenever we’d like. But, there is something symbolic about the first day of a new year… and this year I’m choosing to take it slow. I’m choosing to prioritize living my life, enjoying the process, and prioritizing my relationships that I’ve made in my life both in-person and in this amazing community instead of hyper-focusing on rushing out projects to please an algorithm.

My favorite part of Instagram is the relationships I’ve made. The real life friendships it’s introduced me to. Without those things, I’m not sure where DIY Huntress would be. We are all more than just numbers on a follower count. We are all humans with goals, ambitions, dreams. I want more of that. More of feeling human.

So, here’s to a new era of taking it slow. Enjoying the process. Sharing the small stuff in between each project, like the good old days. Because life, work, and everything in between should bring us joy… and life is too short to spend just chasing an algorithm.
