Grief through an ADHD mind

Grief doesn’t move in a straight line when your brain already struggles with regulation.

With ADHD, it can hit intensely and unexpectedly — like waves that don’t warn you first. You might feel everything at once, or nothing at all. You might get distracted for a moment and then feel guilty for “forgetting” your grief.

An ADHD mind can replay memories on loop, overanalyze the last conversations, or spiral into “what if I had…” thoughts. Anxiety adds another layer — fear of more loss, fear of change, fear of feeling out of control.

Grieving this way doesn’t mean you’re cold.
It doesn’t mean you didn’t love deeply.
It doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.

It just means your brain processes pain differently.

If you feel comfortable sharing — what has grief looked like for you?

My brain when tasks are big: absolutely not.

My brain when tasks are tiny: fine… but I’m judging you.

ADHD paralysis isn’t laziness. It’s what happens when your brain gets overwhelmed by too many steps, decisions, or expectations and basically freezes instead of starting.

The trick isn’t forcing motivation — it’s shrinking the task until your brain doesn’t see it as a threat. Instead of “clean the kitchen,” try “pick up 3 things.” Instead of “start project,” try “open the document.”

Tiny action → reduces overwhelm → builds momentum → brain unlocks.

Question: What’s one task your brain has been avoiding that we can shrink together?

EDA is a space for overthinkers, procrastinators, deep feelers, and chaotic minds who are tired of feeling “lazy” or misunderstood.

Welcome to Executive Dysfunction Anonymous.
Where our brains run marathons while we sit still.

This is your official permission slip to exist exactly as you are.

What is something simple that your brain makes weirdly difficult?

02/20/2026

I don’t overthink.

I just run simulations of disasters that haven’t even been invented yet.

Welcome to EDA.

It’s basically a support group for people whose brains won’t let them relax even when nothing is wrong.

We don’t do 12 steps.

We do 12 simultaneous thought spirals.

Introduce yourself and tell us what your brain has been dramatically overreacting to lately.
