⚠ Severe Weather Wednesday ⚠

The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of Nebraska under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms on Wednesday. Thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon before becoming more widespread Wednesday evening and overnight. While not everyone will see severe weather, some storms could become strong enough to produce damaging winds and large hail.

The main concern will be damaging straight-line winds, especially Wednesday evening into the overnight hours as storms organize into clusters. Large hail will also be possible with the stronger storms, along with frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and locally reduced visibility.

A few storms may begin developing during the afternoon across western Nebraska before increasing in coverage through the evening. As the night progresses, storms are expected to move east across central and eastern Nebraska, with the potential for a few strong to severe storms along the way.

Forecast details may continue to change over the next 24 hours as newer data becomes available. If you have outdoor plans Wednesday afternoon or evening, be sure to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and check back with the Nebraska Storm Chasing Network for the latest forecast updates, radar, and any severe weather watches or warnings that are issued.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across portions of central and northeast Nebraska this evening (6/29/26) and continue into the overnight hours.

There is the potential for two rounds of storms:
đŸŒŠī¸ 6 PM – 9 PM: Isolated to scattered storms may develop along a cold front, especially near and east of central Nebraska. While confidence isn't as high with this first round, any storm that forms could quickly become severe.

đŸŒŠī¸ 11 PM – 4 AM: Confidence is increasing that a more organized cluster or line of thunderstorms will move northeast across the region overnight. This round has the greatest potential to produce widespread severe weather.

Primary threats include:
🟠 Damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph
🟠 Large hail up to half-dollar size or larger
🟠 Torrential rainfall and localized flooding
🟠 An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out

If you live across central or northeast Nebraska, now is the time to review your severe weather plan and make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings before heading to bed tonight. We'll continue to monitor the latest trends and provide updates as conditions evolve.
