Veneered wood is very eco-friendly as it allows more economical use of timber, especially unusual or rare woods. Every scrap of veneer is used. Unlike solid wood, veneers cannot be carved or ornamented. Instead attention focuses on the grain and the sheer beauty of the veneer

Dot" chair 1953-60
This next style has a zillion holes on the seat back and seat bottom and was advertized as ventilated and air conditioned. Also the tubing on the arms is frayed out a bit. Variations of this style where made to circa 1960.
This chair design as well as many Arvin products in the early 1950's (such as dinette sets and heaters) were designed by Raymond Loewy as noted by one of the newspaper ads below. Earl Booth had designed all the prior styles and worked for Arvin for 28 years as their chief engineer of metal furniture. Nothing against Raymond, but his Dot chair was the demise of the all metal outdoor furniture for Arvin.
They tried a variety of Dot patterns during this period. In the late 1950's, they dabbled with settees and gliders; however, this style had already been phased out by most makers such as Shott, Logan, and Southern Household.

Drawer pulls are most commonly made of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. It's a tradition that dates to the William and Mary period when round drop pulls were cast. These early round or pear shaped pulls were usually flat or hollow on the back. They were mounted on a very thin brass backplate that often was “chased” for additional decoration. Around the turn of the 18th century the cast bail handle appeared. It attached to a drawer front with cotter pins clinched on the inside, similar to the earlier drop pulls. The ends of these early bails curved inward to complete the handle.
