One of the questions we get asked most often is, “How did Duckbutt Pottery get its name?”
It all started with a little puppy named Duck.
When Duck was just a tiny baby, I let her outside to go potty. A mama duck happened to be waddling by with her ducklings trailing behind her, and before I could stop her, this little puppy happily fell right in line behind them, as if she’d been part of the family all along. I stood there laughing, watching my puppy follow a line of ducks, and from that day forward, she was Duck.
Years later, when Taylor and I started our pottery business, there was never really another name to consider. It had to be Duckbutt Pottery.
For nearly all of my adult life, she was simply… there. Through every move, every season of life, every celebration, every heartbreak. She was the first face I’d see every morning and the one patiently waiting when I came home. She was there for lazy mornings on the couch, long walks, road trips, and the countless ordinary days that somehow became extraordinary simply because she was part of them.
Losing her has left a space in our lives that can’t be filled. The house is quieter. The studio feels different. We miss the sound of her feet following us from room to room and the comfort of always having her nearby.
The hardest part of loving a dog is knowing one day you’ll have to say goodbye.
We’ll love you always, sweet girl❤️

This weekend filled our hearts.
Thank you to every single person who stopped by our booth, picked up a mug, shared a conversation, or simply came to say hello. Your support means so much more than you probably realize.
Because of you, we get to spend our days covered in clay, chasing glaze combinations, and creating pieces that become part of your everyday rituals. That’s something we’ll never take for granted.
Thank you for supporting handmade, supporting small businesses, and supporting this little dream of ours. We truly couldn’t do what we love without you.
Until next time—thank you. ❤️
