Firefighter, Photographer, Idiot. (Usually in that order)

I am privileged to occupy a space of trust throughout Memorial Weekend as I work to capture people’s emotions in images. Family stories are shared as I ask that question, “Tell me about your Firefighter”. I learn about a Firefighter that loved his Golden Retriever but was scared of snakes and I learn about a family’s sense of humor as they add both snake and dog to his luminaire.
In telling me about his Firefighter a man shares that his husband is still paying it forward through the medics and EMS folks that he trained and mentored. Something he only learned through the stories that friends and colleagues shared.
A little boy jet lagged and out of sorts is having none of this picture thing Friday evening but Saturday he charges over to give a hug and makes my day. Talking with his Grandfather I connect the dots and now have a face and a family that bring more meaning than any report ever could.
If you have the opportunity, ask the question. “Tell me about your Firefighter”

This is the first of large dumps of photos trying to document a larger group of faces that do so much throughout this weekend. I'm prioritizing quantity over quality. I hope you tag, share and make use of these, Thank you for your service.

A small group of Honor Guard members gathered in Emmitsburg to continue our commitment to honor our fallen and their families despite the limitations of this pandemic. My apologies to C Platoon who stood watch from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM! Despite my 5:00 AM arrival I know that I missed some of you.
