If anyone is looking for this dog, we called Cheltenham police - dog was secured and brought to the SPCA in Rosslyn. Dog was wandering at tookany creek parkway by playground. Very seeet, emaciated, metal chain on neck but no tags.
Please register your pets, and have tags on them so they can be reunited.

SOS - we need your help.

A beloved member of the ASH Family needs our help! A long-term ASH dog is currently hospitalized at an emergency vet after a swift and mysterious decline over the last 36 hours. She is currently receiving 24 hours of close monitoring while waiting for an MRI to determine the cause of her illness. (Symptoms are presenting as eye ulceration, limb weakness, pronounced lean, face drooping, lack of balance, and as of this morning, an inability to walk and hold her own weight.)

We are estimating her initial care and diagnostics to total upwards of $6500. This is a huge and unexpected expense, and one most of us would find to be unbearably overwhelming on top of the heartache and stress of having a gravely ill beloved pet.

We are accepting donations to help pay for her care. Any an all amounts are greatly appreciated.

Story time told by a dog.

So, I just arrived at your place and everything is so new and overwhelming. There are big people and little people reaching for me and I see lots of teeth, I hear sounds, soft, and loud, and lots of other noises. I'm so tired, I just want to hide and sleep. I see hands coming at me and then im off the ground. Im being held tightly, and then someone else is holding me. There are so many smells, and I feel overwhelmed, and I think I got to go potty but I can't move because there are more people trying to hold me, so I just bare as long as I can. The pets kinda feel good, but I also want some space, I'm confused. Then, finally someone puts me back on the ground, and than I can't wait any longer and go potty. I hear a a really loud sound and I'm pushed outside. This is a huge yard, and I start to sniff and walk around. I'm not exactly sure what I should do, nobody is here. Where did everyone go? I'm a little scared so I just stand still and wait. I hear a sound again and someone is calling Buddy, Buddy, Buddy, I don't know what that means but I move towards the sound. I'm really tired and want to rest but I can't find a place I feel safe. Everything is so big and new, someone is reaching out and picking me up again and holds me on their lap. I kinda doze off, but I can't relax because there is so much going on. I want to move but really don't know where to go so I just stay put. After a while things quiet down and I see less people. Maybe I get to go to sleep now. I hear high pitch sounds and see little people moving real fast, I don't know what that means so I just stay still. Little hands take turns and touch my head over and over again, and they get really close to my face. Should I smell them? Maybe lick them? I don't know, I'm tired. A little person is waiving something fluffy over my head yelling fetch Buddy, fetch. I don't know what that means and I have to potty again. Should I just move? The person holding me let's me go, and now the little people running around with the fluffy toy, I guess I just start running. They make funny noises and I guess they want me to chase after them. I'm trying to get the fluffy thing so I jump and the little person is now on the ground making a weird noise. The people that brought me home don't sound too nice now, someone picks me up, again, and now I'm locked in this thing. But I can finally rest.

Moral of this story - what you do and how you think and approach a new dog is not the same as your dog receives the message.

A dog needs time to decompress and get used to his/her new place, and it's family. It needs a safe space like a crate or play pen so that the new envirinment isn't too overwhelming. Strangers should not touch your dog, and you and family members should be sparingly using pets until the puppy / dog gets used to everything.

Today is giving Tuesday. This year alone we have taken in 6 dogs and saved the life of many. We are doing this out of our home, without fosters to make sure that any dog moving into a foster and/or potential adopter has received decompression time and multiple evaluations before being placed. All of you know that our goal is a brick and mortar building, but in the meantime we do whatever we can to continue providing the support , care, education and training to all dogs.
