Daniel Elgut, DPM, AACFAS, of South Florida Foot & Ankle Centers, recently used an anatomic distal fibula plate and a combination of compression screws and cannulated screws with washers to treat a trimalleolar open ankle fracture. The 85-year-old female sustained the fracture by a slip and fall and went through a staged procedure where an external fixator was followed with the open reduction internal fixation.
