📚📚SEPTEMBER READS 📚📚
1. Notes on an Ex*****on ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved the way this author writes. Had some interesting themes around race/gender in the story. Content was heavy and gory at times.
2. All the Light We Cannot See ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Historical fiction about WWII. Beautiful writing. Hauntingly sad stories.
3. Just Mercy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Read this if you want to be mad AF about racism and everything related to the criminal Justice system. Prepare to be disgusted/sad/angry. Important book with a lot of information about how our systems (don’t) work.
4. Murder House ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Love a good James Patterson. This book was longggg lots of twists and turns. Listened on audio during long car rides.
5. As Time Goes By ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Chose this because I used to read my grandmothers Mary Higgins Clark books when I was a kid 🥺 It was a good read with cute characters.
6. A Visit From The Goon Squad ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Creative storyline & interesting characters. Sometimes hard to follow because timelines jumped all around. I had to keep going back to check details. I loved how the characters and stories were intertwined.
7. 20 Years Later ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Solid murder mystery somewhat centered around 9/11.
8. Exotic Stories for Punjabi Widows ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a cute story with good characters.
9. Maid ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Plot Twist: Everyone is mean to poor people. She seemed genuinely surprised by this. I actually liked the Netflix series better than the book.
10. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Laila made me read this. It was cute but stories about teenagers dating stress me outttttt 🥴
11. Rest is Resistance ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A coworker sent me this when I was out on medical leave last semester. Who were we before capitalism, white supremacy, ableism, patriarchy, and white-proximate privilege took hold of us? How can we dream in ways that don’t recreate the behaviors of the systems we want to abandon? How are YOU participating as an agent of grind culture? Whew.
12. Demon Copperhead ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Based on Charles Dickens David Copperfield (which I feel like I need to read now). Amazing story, but tragic and sad. I’ve read several books recently about folks in or around Appalachia and learning a lot.
