1. Keep them clean. The best way to keep your nails soft and smooth is to wash them with warm water, then apply a moisturizing lotion or cream. You can also use an exfoliating scrub, but be careful not to scrub too hard--you don't want to damage the cuticle!

2. Exfoliate regularly! Your nails grow from the base up, so if there are any dead skin cells on your nails, they'll be dragged down into the nail bed when you trim or file away at it--and that can cause ingrown hair, which makes it harder for your nail to grow out evenly in length. To avoid this problem, use a gentle scrub every three weeks or so (especially if you have sensitive skin), then follow up with a good application of moisturizer afterwards!
