The Roman Catholic High School of Philadelphia is proud to announce that the President of its Board of Directors, Thomas A. Leonard, Esq. ’64, has given $1 million to Roman through the Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program.

The EITC Program allows Pennsylvania residents to redirect their state tax liability to schools through the Business Leadership Organized for Catholic Schools (BLOCS) scholarship organization for a 90% credit. This past year, Roman raised more than $2 million in EITC scholarships, the most in the school’s storied history.

“Tom’s extraordinary generosity is a reflection of a lifetime devoted to Catholic High,” said Roman’s President John A. Prendergast ’08. “For more than 30 years, Tom has partnered with our Chair, Dan DiLella, to lead our Board with unwavering vision, integrity, and a deep belief in the transformative power of a Roman education. This remarkable $1 million EITC gift is more than an investment in scholarships – it is an investment in young men whose lives will be forever changed because of Roman. Tom continues to set the standard for servant leadership, and our entire school community is profoundly grateful for his enduring commitment to our mission.”

On what motivated him to make this gift, Leonard said: “Thomas Cahill founded Roman to provide excellent, tuition-free Catholic education for young men. Roman afforded me that quality education, which propelled my career. I fully embrace our Founder’s vision and recommend that all alumni and friends utilize the excellent EITC program to preserve and advance Roman’s legacy.”

Leonard has served as the only President of Roman’s Board of Directors since its inception in 1991. He has been a cornerstone of Roman’s growth and success for more than three decades. His leadership and philanthropy have helped advance Thomas E. Cahill’s mission and strengthened the school’s position as a leader in Catholic education in the Delaware Valley.
