Happy World Wetlands Day! 🌎 🌍
Wetlands are critical ecosystems that contribute to biodiversity, climate mitigation, freshwater availability, world economies and more.
Nearly 90% of the world's wetlands have been degraded since the 1700's.
The 2022 theme "Wetlands Action for People and Nature" highlights the importance of actions to ensure conservation and sustainable use of wetlands. Rewet, Reforest, Restore!
Learn a little about wetlands today and plan to visit one soon!

Fiddleheads are the cool kids on the yard. Before unfurling into magnificent greens, ferns spend a fleeting time in this scrolled shape.
Ferns are versatile and are a trusted option for the shade garden and as indoor plants. Here they're hanging out in a pot, growing up with other perennials in the spring.
Fern shoots or fiddlehead ferns, named after the fiddlehead violin, can add an elegant edge to cut floral arrangements. Adventurous chefs even enjoy using them as culinary delights (but never eat anything you don't know😬). In spring, catch them while you can!

Sweet grape hyacinth (muscari) symbolizes tenderness and softness and is an expression of caring love.
However, it also represents power and confidence and can inspire creativity and mystery!
I suppose we can pick the meanings we want and need? ☺️
One thing is a fact: It brings me joy to see them growing in the young, springtime yard!

Purple leaf sand cherry (Prunus x cistena), a full and lovely purple shrub, brings contrasting joy to the green garden. And the tiny pink spring flowers make me feel like hope is in the air.
