A message from Chef Maria …

Mental health is always our priority, even when we take time off to focus on our own.

We know it’s been awhile since you’ve heard from Cooks Who Care. Even though we’ve been a bit quiet lately, our commitment has never wavered. We’re launching something new and if you’re ready to connect with a focus on mental health, we want you to be part of it.

Join us on Zoom Wednesday, April 29th from 3-4 pm EST to learn more. We’re building an Advisory Committee that will help plan the next steps in our mission of mental health care … because we’re always better together.

Over the next few months, watch for:

💫Food is Therapy pop ups
💫Relaunch of our Keep On Walking Film Series (in partnership with )
💫Real people, sharing their inspiring stories
💫Community healing

You can help make it all happen. Follow for more info.

Some days it feels like too much … and doing nothing isn’t sitting right anymore. This is your moment to step in.

The Cooks Who Care mental health movement is growing and we’ve saved you a seat at the table.

No one heals alone. And the truth is … a lot of us are carrying more than we should by ourselves.

When it comes to mental health, no one can do it all alone. We’re made to work together and together, we can do so much.

Our goal is to bring people together around the shared belief that Food is Therapy.

Over the next few months, we’re bringing people together through:
– Pop-up cooking events
– Shared recipes with real stories behind them
– Spaces where people can speak honestly about what they’ve been through

And we’re capturing it - so others can see they’re not alone, no matter where they are in their journey.

This isn’t just content. This is connection. This is care in action.

These stories matter. You matter.

You can help shape the movement and inspire others by being part of our Cooks Who Care Mental Health Advisory Committee. If any of this resonates with you, send us a message for more info.

☀️Shift workers, night owls, and over-timers - this one’s for you.

Missing out on sunlight can mess with your mood. But you don’t need hours in the park to get the benefits. Try these “sun hacks” starting tomorrow:

🌞 Sun shot, not sun bath — 5 minutes outside is better than none. Think of it like an espresso shot for your brain.
🚶‍♀️ Commute detour — park a little further, walk a block, or just stand on the corner and vibe.
🥗 Lunch al fresco-ish — even if it’s just sitting on a stoop with your sandwich, your body counts it.
🪟 Window upgrade — stake out that sunny spot like it’s your new corner office.
💡 Fake it ‘til you make it — grab a light therapy lamp for those midnight or winter shifts.

Easy, doable, and your mood will thank you.
Catch your rays where you can - tomorrow’s the perfect day to start. ✨

STRONGER INDUSTRY. STRONGER YOU. 💪
In this business, the hustle is real — long days, late nights, and the unspoken pressure to “power through” no matter what. But here’s the truth: burnout isn’t a badge of honor.

That’s why we’re proud to stand with Humane Kitchen and the 86 Challenge — the first-ever wellbeing challenge built for hospitality, by hospitality. It’s not about perfection; it’s about showing up for yourself and your team with small, consistent habits that create real change.

The challenge runs for 27, 54, or 86 days and focuses on 7 essential habits:
✨ Digital Diet
✨ 86 Alcohol & Substances
✨ 20 Minutes of Mindful Eating
✨ Daily Journaling
✨ 35-Minute Workouts
✨ Learn Something New
✨ 15 Minutes of Meditation

You’ll track your journey with a weekly progress photo and keep the focus on consistency, not pressure.

We’re supporting this challenge because we believe in a stronger, healthier industry — and that starts with each of us. Whether you’re clocking in FOH or BOH, this is your sign to put your wellbeing on the line-up.

📅 Join the 86 Challenge. Show up for yourself. Strengthen our industry.
