The three key questions we want to know the answers to:

1) Why are you open to a new opportunity?

2) What do you like about the Job and the Company we are discussing?

3) If the Job, the Company, and the money are right, would you leave your current company?

Over the years we’ve found that these are key questions to ask during an interview. The answers reveal how serious a candidate is about leaving their current company. Of course, that’s important to a potential employer. But, we believe that it’s also essential that a candidate take some private time to think about these questions, so that they can decide what they really want going forward.

What key questions are you asking your candidates? 🤔

Recently we were working with a candidate who was in a very enviable position. She had offers from two wonderful companies!

She liked them both and was clearly having a hard time deciding which is best. One position offered a little more money and the other would prepare her for the track of her dreams!

There’s no denying that this is a tough decision to make. In either scenario you will get much of what’s on your wish list. But how on earth do you decide? 🤷

With most candidates we work with, we find that deep in their gut they know what they truly want. However, they’re nervous to make the choice.

The one and only way to help in the decision-making process is to take a piece of paper, and with a pen draw a line straight down the center. On one side you will write all the pros and on the other side you will write all the cons. This isn’t a highly sophisticated method but it’s one of the best ways to bring clarity to your choice. Once this exercise is finished you will see exactly which side has more pros than cons. 👍

Oddly enough, we’ve had many candidates say that even though they can see on the paper that they should pick the job with more pros, deep down it’s not what they want.

As they say, sometimes you just have to 👌
