Okay, designers, let’s get real: I spent years in the trenches trying to figure out what actually moves the needle. Turns out, the missing link was under my nose the whole time.
In my previous post where I explored the “Pipeline-Filling Skills Nobody Teaches,”: the real revenue lever is how you speak your services. Not flashy jargon, not leftover marketing tropes but clear, compelling descriptions that distinguish you.
Here’s what I’ve unlocked (and now preach to my team):
💙 You don’t just “design for a living” — you sell design for a living.
💙If your competitors are using vague “we create beautiful spaces” lines, you won’t stand out.
💙The shift? Speak with benefits + specificity. Tell clients exactly what you do, for whom, and why it matters.
💙That clarity and distinct voice becomes your competitive moat.
So here’s my ask to you: rewrite one service line this week: simplify, clarify, sharpen it. Post your original vs. your new version below (if you’re feeling brave). Let’s help each other escape “generic purgatory.”

Hey design fam,
Quick truth bomb incoming: you can have all the gorgeous projects, all the aesthetic mood boards, all the social media sparkle… but if you can’t fill your pipeline, your business stays stuck in neutral.
In my latest Blog read (I’m always stockpiling good biz advice for you), I shared my Interior Design Biz Pipeline Secret #1 — and yes, it’s a game changer. The real magic isn’t your social media or your stunning designs (though those matter) — it’s your ability to translate your services into clear, compelling, juicy language that makes prospective clients say, “Yes, I need you.”
Here’s what I’m whispering in my own business mirror:
Generic statements like “We design beautiful spaces” just blend into the crowd.
Romance language (all flowery terms) is lovely — but insufficient.
What you need is simplicity + specificity + benefits wrapped in clarity.
That’s the “secret sauce” missing for 99% of design entrepreneurs.
Designers, I’m challenging you: revisit your service descriptions this week. Does it feel “me-too”? Or does it feel magnetic, distinctive, and unforgettable? 🤔
Stay tuned as I’ll be sharing a follow-up where I walk us through how to build this language framework for your brand.
Drop a 🎤 in the comments if you’re ready to untangle the generic and unlock your brand voice!
