Last Monday, students in Honors History of the U.S. City in Nine Uprisings led a walking tour of the Columbia Avenue uprising of 1964. The uprising took place in North Philadelphia as a response to police violence and was one of the first civil rights uprisings of the 60s. The instructor for the class, Professor Ansfield, is one of our Honors Affiliated Faculty and their work focuses on racial capitalism, the carceral state, and twentieth-century U.S. cities.
