Nonstop Show Group

Lamar David Mackson and the Nonstop Show Group recently had the pleasure of serving as Associate Producer on "IN THE PARLOUR", a short film by veteran actors turned Producers Ed & Messerett Wheeler. The project is based on a play by Emmy Award Winner Judy Tate's work of the same name.

The film is set on March 1st 1913, on the eve of what was to become the most historic Women's’ Suffrage march in history, the African American activist Mary Church Terrell negotiates with white suffragette, Alice Paul, who has organized the march, but is unwilling to allow African-American women to participate. The play takes place in the parlour of the home of Edna Brown, a Howard University scholar and sorority sister of Delta Sigma Theta who is making walking skirts for the event. The famous educator Nellie Quander, leader of a rival sorority has arranged this meeting between the two formidable opponents and as they do battle, we witness history being made.

Filmed completely on location in Plainfield, the film production is the first of 2023 to take place in the Queen City and further unofficially establishes the city as a certified FILM READY NJ community. The FILM READY NJ program was created by Governor Phil Murphy to prepare New Jersey communities for the influx of large scale film productions attracted to NJ because of the NJ Digital Media & Film Tax Credit which offers up to 35% back on film budgets spent in NJ. Thanks to the NJ State Motion Picture and Television Commission for the continued work to reclaim New Jersey as the Cinema Capitol of the world.
