3Degrees has been quiet on social channels. We’ve been assessing what it means to be an anti-racist organization.

We want to be clear. We believe Black Lives Matter. For hundreds of years, Black people have experienced deadly and devastating harm, including police brutality and citizen enacted violence. These threats to their daily lives and losses of dignity are unacceptable.

So how do these truths apply to us? We recognize that climate change has a disproportionately negative impact on Black people, Indigenous people, and other people of color. Urgent action on climate must also acknowledge, explore, and advance equity and inclusion in marginalized communities. Our efforts to date have fallen short. The lack of racial diversity at 3Degrees and throughout our industry, especially in leadership positions, contributes to a void in recognizing problems and developing solutions. This is one reality (among others) that we are committed to changing.

Even after our action plan is implemented, our work won’t be done. Centuries of injustice have created a complex, pervasive culture of white supremacy. Recognizing and dismantling the characteristics of white supremacy culture requires continuous focus. Let’s do the work.
