hannah shedding some light on the track liminal from the album we released last summer called ‘long long hallway’

You know the feeling of missing someone but you don’t know who it is? chasing a feeling? longing for something that you don’t know where to find? Liminal started as a note in my phone that said “i miss everyone i’ve never met” and i first tried to write the whole song straight to the point like that, but i couldn’t get myself to finish it.

simultaneously, i was taking a songwriting class with adrianne lenker, and our final prompt was to write a song without using pronouns. This includes taking out “you” and “I” from the narrative. A song about an unnameable feeling with no subject and no narrator. Somehow the perfect restraint i needed to capture the feeling was placed in my lap right when i needed it.
synchronicity. the feeling of ur stomach dropping in anticipation of the ground mid fall. the muscle firing twinkle in your thighs after a long walk. the deep longing desire to be seen, to love, to let someone get close. overwhelming nothingness. seeing a flower so beautiful you wish you could become it. the slight confusion of the ups and downs that come with winters end and springs begin. that’s what liminal is about.
