“I’m a little wide open
Most of these days”
Absolutely beautiful show, as always.

We spent most of the day on our new (1985) boat at the marina. We had a picnic, read, knit, played games, took naps.
I’m so thankful I’m their mom. I’m so grateful for Luke.
My absolute favorite thing is when all five of us are together, passing time doing ordinary things, laughing, telling stories.
Happy Mother’s Day ❤️🔮⛴️🦭

I write this to post later when the world turns back on across the islands. I sit on the grass on the edge of town limits. It’s incredible how the space around me is exquisitely silent without the hum of electricity. At Write, I say we disconnect to connect &, by this, I mean off electronics as we lean into eye contact & being present & listening to the sounds of pen on paper & hearts getting to know one another.
Today, Wednesday, a countywide power outage with down cell towers moves me off grid & further into the realities of the dystopian world I often feel like I’m experiencing.
picked me up & we went on a drive & talked, just like two teens skipping class. We couldn’t believe how joyful & special Write 24 was. Every single creative who showed up was remarkable.
It’s always hard to leave Doe Bay & it’s always difficult to slide back into the everyday of life after a Write. But the unexpected gift of electronic powerlessness & down cell towers was a good reminder what to do with my creative heart in the silence.
I’m so excited to share photos & stories of Write 24. I’ll have to wait to get plugged in again. For now, I’ll read in the not quite sun not exactly rainy weather, marveling at the sounds amplified when the power is off.

On a southwestern Maui beach at sunset, a few days into this new year, we sat on the beach.
We waited as the sky changed from orange sherbet to magical pastels - & then it happened.
First a few sea turtles came ashore to bask in the moonlight, regulate their body temperatures, & rest from a sea day.
I know sea turtles are solitary creatures but when so many came ashore in pairs I whispered they were with besties or lovers or siblings.
“How many do you think will arrive,” my family asked. My husband said two dozen, a daughter said fourteen -
I interrupted to say, “Seventeen. There will be seventeen turtles.”
Seventeen weeks apart my parents died. I found out my brother died on the seventeenth. We flew to Florida seventeen times in six months.
Seventeen turtles came ashore that evening. I’ve waited my whole life to see this moonlight basking. It was absolutely magical.
My parents vacationed in Maui in 1987 & always said I should too someday.
Never stop looking for signs. In numbers, in images - they’re all around.
