The PTO has restarted a campaign to raise funds to provide support to our Ocean Avenue Community members. The PTO has partnered with our social workers with the goal of providing Hannaford Gift Cards to families struggling with food insecurity. If you or someone you know needs food while SNAP benefits are suspended, PPS just updated its Community Food Resource Guide: https://www.portlandschools.org/department/food-service/community-food-resource-guide that includes information about local food pantries, meal sites, and other resources.

If you're looking for ways to help your neighbors, here are a few:

1. Make a donation to the PPS Food Fund

For now, these funds will go towards Hannaford gift cards and/or increasing food at school food pantries.

2. Donate Food or Volunteer
Some of our community partners that accept donations of food as well as volunteers include Locker Project, Wayside Food Programs, Presente Maine, Preble Street Food Security Hub, or the MaineHealth Food Pantry. Please check their websites to see specific items they do and do not accept.

Back Cove Books is proud to host an in-store book fair to benefit the elementary schools of the Portland Public School District on Tuesday, November 11th from 9 AM-6 PM!

They will be filling the store and Odd Fellows Hall (located on the 2nd floor) with all of the things you love about a classic book fair ~ books, books, stickers, tiny journals, bookmarks, books, and more books!

It is extremely important to us that every member of our community sees themselves in the books and stories we have on our shelves. As such, we are proud to present an offering of titles that covers a wide range of reading levels, is diverse in character/author/topic, and is not cost prohibitive to participating families.

The extra magical part? 20% of every purchase will be donated back as a store credit to Ocean Avenue Elementary School! :)
