Mt. Scott Learning Center
Mt. Scott Learning Center is a non-profit organization located in southeast Portland, Oregon.
Thank you everyone who joined us for our “Pave the Path” event on April 22 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club. It was a wonderful celebration of Mt. Scott Learning Center and a call to action to spread the news about the life-changing work the school provides to Portland-area high school students and families.
Guests enjoyed cocktails, delicious appetizers and dessert, a silent auction, and an inspiring program (including an emotional opening video) – all in the backdrop of one of the Northwest’s most historic and premier country clubs.
Thank you to everyone who came together: donors/supporters, board members, volunteers, event sponsors, our new friends, staff, graduates, and parents. We’re grateful to each of you for showing up and being part of our community.
In middle school, Shirley began battling anxiety and depression amid struggles she was experiencing outside of school. Her challenges continued when she started attending a large, traditional high school, where she felt lost, unnoticed, and insignificant.
But at Mt. Scott Learning Center’s high school, Shirley discovered hope.
“I felt very welcomed immediately,” remembers Shirley. “I felt like I could talk to the staff and I would not be judged for my past or for what I was going through. I no longer felt like I didn’t matter.”
Fast forward a couple years later and Shirley was graduating a year early with a four-year college scholarship and a goal of becoming a nurse.
“I chose nursing because it’s an opportunity for me to help others and help them feel safe,” said Shirley. “That’s pretty much what Mt. Scott made me feel like: safe and noticed.”
Discover why students like Shirley each year find hope, feel safe, and experience success at our small, personalized, relationship-based high school in SE Portland.
