🎉🎉 It’s the International Day of Play 🎉🎉

What better way to celebrate than by talking about one of the most important types of play for babies: tummy time!

âś… Awake tummy time is vital for infant development. It helps build strength, supports motor milestones, and even plays a role in helping babies learn to reposition themselves once they start rolling.

🚫 On the flip side, too much awake time on their backs, or in containers like loungers, swings, or car seats can delay these developments and reduce a baby’s ability to move freely.

“A systematic review of 16 articles from 8 countries showcased the importance of tummy time in respect to total infant development. Unfortunately, the evidence showed only 30%-75% of caregivers adhered to the recommendation. Many worried about placing their babies on a hard surface, which may explain why these soft pillow-like devices have become so popular over recent years.”

Tummy time can start as soon as you get home after baby is born. Start with a few minutes and work up to 15 minutes a day minimum.
You don’t need anything fancy, you can just place baby down on the floor with or without a mat or blanket underneath them.

When it comes to sleep ALWAYS place baby down on their back, in a firm and empty sleep space, until they’re over 12 months of age, allowing them to move into the position they choose when they’re able to.

Baby, it’s HOT outside! Here are some tips on how to dress baby appropriately because overheating is a big risk when it comes to infants.

You want to ensure they’re comfy, but not hot. Use their torso to gauge how warm they are, NOT their extremities. Baby hands and feet can be cold even when the rest of them isn’t, and typically isn’t an issue (but bring it up to your pediatrician if you’re worried).

Additional reminders:
❌ No loose bedding
❌ No tucked in blankets
❌ No hats or hoods inside or for sleep
❌ No weighted sleepwear
