Today, we’re celebrating every kind of mother and mother figure.

The ones who lead with love, show up through hard moments, protect their families, support their communities, and continue giving even when no one sees it.

To all mothers, grandmothers, aunties, guardians, mentors, and women who care for others in ways big and small, thank you. Your strength, patience, guidance, and love leave a lasting impact every day.

We also want to hold space for the mothers carrying grief today. Mothers mourning loved ones, mothers missing their children, and those experiencing Mother’s Day with heavy hearts. We’re thinking of you. 💛

Warmer months often bring more time outside, larger crowds, and more activity throughout the city. Staying aware of your surroundings and trusting your instincts can make a difference.

A few small decisions can help keep you and the people around you safer this summer.

Child abuse prevention is about what we do every day, not just what we know.

About 1 in 4 children experience abuse or neglect in their lifetime. That’s something we can’t ignore.

Support happens in the moments people often overlook.
Being present.
Paying attention.
Creating spaces where young people feel safe enough to speak.

Small actions build trust.
Trust creates change.

Believe our children. 💛

Ending Women’s History Month by highlighting Black women who have shaped violence prevention and intervention work.

Dorothy Johnson-Speight channeled her grief into action after losing her son to gun violence, founding Mothers in Charge to support families impacted by violence. Her work creates space for healing, education, and guidance for young people and communities navigating these realities.

Her leadership continues to show what it looks like to stand with families, break cycles, and support prevention at the community level.

Thank you, Dorothy Johnson-Speight, for the care and commitment you bring to this work.

Highlighting Black women who have shaped violence prevention and intervention work.

Dr. Deborah Prothrow-Stith helped change how we approach violence by recognizing it as something that can be prevented, not just responded to. Her work helped bring education and early intervention into the conversation, especially for young people.

Her approach continues to influence how communities show up, support one another, and work to prevent harm before it happens.

Thank you, Dr. Prothrow-Stith, for the foundation you helped build.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting and showing appreciation for Black women who have shaped and continue to shape the work of violence prevention and intervention.

The women who have made a lasting impact and those continuing to show up for their communities every day.

We’re starting with Erica Ford, founder of LIFE Camp, whose work has helped reduce gun violence while creating space for healing in communities most impacted.

Thank you, Erica Ford, for the work you do and for helping create safer, stronger communities.

Happy Birthday to our Executive Director, Marvin Young.

Your leadership, dedication, and genuine heart for this work continue to guide Nurture Outreach every day. You show up for the community, for the youth and families we serve, and for the team doing this work alongside you.

We’re grateful for your vision, your commitment, and the way you lead. Thank you for standing in the gap for our community and for the people who need it most.

Wishing you a great birthday and another year of continued impact.
