This past Sunday, Reverend Margaret Philip shared the sermon “Ubuntu,” based on Genesis 1:1–2:4a, Psalm 8, and Matthew 28:16–20. The message centered on the African concept of Ubuntu, often translated as “I am because we are.” Ubuntu teaches that our lives are deeply interconnected and that our humanity is shaped through our relationships with one another. Reverend Philip reflected on how God created us not to live in isolation, but to be part of a community where we recognize the dignity, worth, and sacredness of every person.
Drawing from the creation story in Genesis and Jesus’ call to his followers in Matthew, Reverend Philip reminded us that we are called to see God’s light in one another and to reflect that light through kindness, compassion, hospitality, and service. She encouraged us to move beyond our differences, embrace one another as beloved children of God, and build communities rooted in friendship, understanding, and mutual care. In a world that can often feel divided, Ubuntu offers a powerful reminder that we are stronger together and that God’s presence is revealed when we live in relationship with one another. As followers of Christ, we are invited to recognize that our lives are connected and that we truly flourish when we seek God’s image in our neighbors and work together to create a more loving and welcoming world.
Join us this coming Sunday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m., when Pastor Alex Brown will share the sermon, “Desire for Mercy, Not Sacrifice,” based on Genesis 12:1–9 and Matthew 9:9–26. We will also celebrate Communion Sunday together. We warmly invite you to join us—and to bring family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. We would love to worship with you.

Remembering Those Who Shaped Our Lives
Memorial Day is a time to remember those we have loved and lost — the people whose lives shaped our families, friendships, and communities in meaningful ways.
Today we reflect on the stories, traditions, and memories passed from one generation to the next, and on the lasting impact of those who came before us. Their lives continue to shape our families and communities through the memories, values, and love they shared.
We hold space for remembrance, gratitude, and hope. May this day reconnect us with the people and memories that continue to live on in our hearts.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” — Matthew 5:4

This Pentecost Sunday, Evan Rodgers shared a message titled “Rivers of Living Water,” centered on Acts 2:1–21 and John 7:37–39. Reflecting on Christ’s invitation to “come to the waters,” the sermon explored the Holy Spirit as living water — a sustaining and renewing presence that nourishes the soul and gives strength for daily life. Drawing connections to Psalm 42, Psalm 143, Isaiah 55, and John 4, the message reminded us that the spiritual well Christ offers never runs dry. Just as Jesus described himself as the Bread of Life, the Spirit becomes the energy and sustenance that helps us navigate life with hope, purpose, and faith.
The sermon encouraged the congregation to intentionally receive the miracles and beauty God is constantly offering in everyday life. Through prayer, meditation, mindfulness, Sabbath rest, worship, relationships, and time spent in nature, we open ourselves to the movement of the Spirit. Evan reflected on how easy it can be to focus on negativity, yet Pentecost calls us instead to recognize the goodness of God working all around us — often through simple and small moments of transformation.
Inspired by the hymn “God of Change and Glory,” the message also emphasized the importance of diversity, inclusion, and interfaith dialogue. God works through many people, experiences, and communities, and faith invites us not only to believe, but also to participate, belong, and share in devotion together. Pentecost serves as a reminder that the Spirit is poured out on everyone, calling all people toward compassion, understanding, renewal, and living water that continues to flow freely for all.
Welcome to the live broadcast for Sunday, May 24th. Evan Rodgers will be offering today’s message, “Rivers of Living Water”. Music provided by Dave Lewis.
