A little milestone worth celebrating 🤍
This sweet girl laid her very first green egg, and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s always special when you get to witness these firsts — a small reminder of how beautiful the simple things can be.

How cool is this!?
“Chickens dream too!
Just like humans, chickens experience REM sleep, the stage where dreams happen. That means your backyard flock might be off on little adventures — running through fields, scratching for treats, or chasing imaginary bugs — all while snoozing away. 🌾💤
📚 Fun fact to share with your fellow chicken lovers!”

****What Causes Silkies to Lose Condition?****
If you’ve noticed your Silkies looking a little rough around the edges—don’t panic. There are several common reasons why they might lose condition, like frayed feathers or a general “worn down” appearance.
Just like the hens in this photo, freshly rotated out of breeding pens, their feathers often reflect the wear and tear of an active breeding season. This is totally normal and usually temporary.
Here are a few key causes of condition loss:
• Molt – A natural feather replacement process that can leave them patchy and tired-looking.
• Parasites – External (mites/lice) and internal (worms) can drain them and dull their coat.
• Diet – Not enough protein, vitamins, or minerals can affect feather quality and body condition.
• Broodiness – Broody hens often eat less and lose weight/condition.
• Stress – Changes in environment, flock dynamics, or predators can cause stress-related issues.
• Bullying – Pecking and feather pulling by more dominant birds.
• Health Issues – Respiratory problems or other underlying illnesses.
Regular checkups, good nutrition, and time to rest after breeding will help get them back to show shape. Think of it as their “spa break.”
