During the Fiesta on Wells, Annamaria and Mario De La Rosa were recognized and commemorated for their incredible service. They are so deserving of this honor. 🌟

I am both humbled and honored that the Courageous Corazon Foundation received a Certificate of Commendation from United States Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen of Nevada.

This moment is a true testament to the power of community, culture, and education working hand in hand. 💙✨

A Special Tribute to the Late Jesus “Chuy” Gutierrez and His Wife, Maria

Jesus “Chuy” Gutierrez was born in Michoacán, Mexico, and carried with him a lifelong vision of bringing the true essence of Mexico to Reno. They proudly introduced Mari Chuy’s Tequilería y Botanas—Reno’s first Tequilería.

Since 2001, Chuy and Maria worked side by side to create some of the top Mexican restaurants in the Reno/Sparks area. Their entrepreneurial spirit, tireless dedication, and genuine love for people built not only thriving establishments but also a strong sense of community.

For Chuy and Maria, it was never just about food—it was about sharing culture, creating connection, and serving with heart. They were especially passionate about honoring Mexico’s rich traditions and its revered spirit, Tequila. Thanks to their vision, this piece of Mexico now has a proud home in Northern Nevada.

The late Chuy and his wife, Maria, have always been guided by service. From supporting first responders and education to extending a helping hand to those in need, giving back has remained a constant priority. Through Mari Chuy’s, they have built not only a thriving culinary brand but also a legacy of care, compassion, and deep commitment to the community they proudly call home.

Chuy’s legacy continues through Maria, whose strength, warmth, and hospitality ensure that Mari Chuy’s remains a place where guests feel like family and the community feels embraced. His memory lives on in every dish, every smile, and every moment shared around the table.

Kicking off Spanish Heritage Month by paying tribute to Chef Miguel Ribera. Far more than just a restaurateur, Miguel Ribera was a beloved community leader with a passion for helping local Latino youth. The generous Ribera family provided scholarships to many of their employees.
For his years of dedication to the community, the Miguel Ribera Family Resource Center at Pine Middle School and Miguel Ribera Park are both named in his honor.
