New Gun Laws Taking Effect Nationwide in 2025: A Quick Overview

Several states are introducing significant changes to gun laws starting January 1, 2025. Here’s what you need to know:

California

• AB 1483: Limits individuals to one handgun purchase per 30 days (enforcement delayed due to court challenges).
• AB 1598: Requires firearm dealers to provide educational materials on gun risks, including su***de and accidental injury.
• AB 2917: Expands gun violence restraining orders to include hate-motivated threats.

Colorado
• Secure firearm storage is now required in unattended vehicles.
• New concealed carry training requirements begin July 2025, including live-fire exercises and written exams.

New Hampshire
• Laws safeguard privacy by banning merchant codes that track firearm purchases and allowing employees to store fi****ms in locked vehicles at work.

Kentucky
• Joins other states in banning merchant codes for tracking gun purchases, citing privacy concerns.

Other States
• Minnesota: Bans binary triggers that enable rapid gunfire.
• New York: Requires firearm dealers to display gun safety warnings and creates a registry for extreme risk protection orders.
• Delaware: Adds universities to Safe School Zones, prohibiting fi****ms on campuses.
