I am looking forward to another week on Wolfe Island in Ontario with fellow literacy instructors from across Canada and the U.S! At this point, as much as I love working with Pete Bowers, this trip is all about reconnecting with colleagues, learning with experts across fields, making new connections, and refueling!

This legislation will hopefully encourage change to happen faster. Many schools are still using curriculum that has been debunked. One such local school system is actually Carver. They actually only bought Lucy Calkins Units of Study three years ago.

🚨State Legislature Passes My Early Literacy Bill🚨

This is a pivotal moment for children across our state as we advance the critical legislation I filed to ensure every student gains essential literacy skills. We all recognize that teaching our kids to read and write is one of the most fundamental responsibilities we have, yet far too many students are still falling short of basic literacy benchmarks.

As co-chair of the conference committee, I was proud to collaborate with many educators to craft evidence based policies that will strengthen early literacy instruction and set our students on a path to lifelong success. I want to express my gratitude to Senate President Karen E. Spilka, my fellow conferees, my team, especially my Chief of Staff, Christie Getto Young, the educators, and the committed advocates whose dedication helped carry this important policy across the finish line.
