Let's be honest... that's an adorable little bat.
It's also a good reminder that wildlife and people are usually happiest when they keep a respectful distance from each other.
Our technicians love wildlife, but they're also trained to handle situations safely and are vaccinated against rabies before ever working around bats. While rabies exposure is rare, it is a serious health concern, and direct contact with wild animals should always be avoided. Bats are the wildlife species most commonly associated with rabies exposure in Canada.
If you find a bat in your home, don't try to catch it with a towel, a bucket, a fishing net, your cousin Larry, or any other improvised wildlife-management tool. Keep people and pets away from the area and contact a trained professional.
We'll handle the wildlife. You keep the family safe. 🦇
Dunnville , Ontario
Multiple people are receiving medical treatment at a Dunnville hospital after being exposed to a rabid bat, according to the local health unit.
“While the risk of rabies exposure in our region remains low, this case is an important reminder that contact with wild animals, particularly bats, can pose a serious health risk,” Malenfant said.
Residents should steer clear of wild animals, “especially if they appear tame, injured or sick,” the health unit said.
Rabies is transmitted through infected saliva, and in Canada, the virus is most commonly carried by bats, raccoons, foxes and skunks.
“If there is no direct contact with (a wild animal), there is no risk of rabies,” the health unit said.
If a person is bitten or otherwise exposed to a potentially rabid animal, rabies shots are “highly effective” if the prophylaxis is administered before symptoms begin, the health unit said.
Public health wants to hear from all residents who are scratched or bitten by a wild or domestic animal. Residents in that situation should also seek prompt medical attention, the health unit
To further minimize the risk of infection, health officials recommend “wildlife-proofing” your home, and ensuring your pets and livestock have their latest rabies vaccination.
“If there is a bat in your home, please do not go near it or attempt to remove it yourself. Please call animal control

🐱💼 New Hire? Not Quite…
Our technician Will made a new friend on the job — and let’s just say, this cat was very interested in joining the Skedaddle Baltimore team. 🐾
With strong instincts and a clear passion for mice, we briefly considered hiring them as our newest Wildlife Specialist (Mouse Division)…
But unfortunately, they couldn’t agree to our humane removal policies. 😅
Still, 10/10 would pet again. 💚

🐿️💚 When Humane Wildlife Control Means Going the Extra Mile. Recently, our Skedaddle Baltimore team responded to a unique situation involving a baby squirrel found at the bottom of a walk-up attic staircase.
At first, our technicians safely returned the baby to its nest, with both parents still active on-site — the best-case scenario for a natural reunion. 🏡
However, a few days later, the homeowner reached out again. The baby squirrel had returned to the same spot, calling out — a sign it had likely been abandoned.
At that point, our owner Carol stepped in. She personally picked up the baby and transported it to Tiny Treasures Wildlife Rehab, a trusted local rehabilitator we proudly support with a monthly donation. 💚
Situations like this are a reminder that humane wildlife control isn’t just about removing animals — it’s about doing what’s right for both the homeowner and the wildlife.
We’re grateful to partners like Tiny Treasures for helping give animals a second chance. 🐾
