Welcome to Overload Alchemist Studios Cosplay, home of Raiji Magiwind’s Cosplay and artistic side of Facebook. This page is here to promote my cosplay and artist side and allow for me to have a place to promote it without clogging my personal Facebook with it for those I may be friends with who don’t want to see my feed clogged with 400 something cosplay photos and other nerdy geeky stuff... not to say I don’t still post geeky stuff to my personal too...:P
Overload Alchemist Studios is also my arm for my nerdy related endeavors as a whole, including commissions and other related artistry. Slots will open based on my availability and priced to suit and reflect the project, cost of materials and labor. As such, DO NOT EXPECT CHEAP CHINESE ‘SWEAT SHOP’ PRICES. I MAY consider payment plans within reason depending on the project. As such, expect to pay for the value of the work which includes cost of materials and labor.
Anywho....
As to who is “Miss Raiji”?
Raiji has been cosplaying off and on since a teen, though back then it was mostly for local meetups and Halloween and stuff. They became more convention active in 2006, starting with Anime Central and Youmacon. You will find thou tends to do a lot of Crossplay, though on some occasions does female characters.
Raiji is also the assistant and ‘Apprentice’ to Hathor Otlowski of Timey Wimey Wearables, a fellow local Michigan based cosplayer and costume commissioner, who specializes in plus sized services. There are a number of times when the two ‘studios’ join forces on projects, weather they be crafting related or on occasion. Together we tend to do some active stuff in the Star Wars, and Doctor Who communities. Said partner in crime is knowledgeable in Star Wars costuming to a decent extent, as a retired 501st member. As such, she’s definitely one to chat with if you are considering wanting to join either the 501st or Rebel Legion as she can definitely point you in a good direction on how to pull together piece that would be able to potentially pass s***f for acceptance into either group, or at least put you on the right track.
Miss Raiji is genderfluid, and while she tends to dress more feminine for professional purposes such as employment and the like, she tends to prefer more masculine attire. Raiji also does not have a pronoun preference, though if you wish to be ‘proper’, use of they/their or similar is fine if you do not wish to use gender specific pronouns.
One has been sighted at Anime Central, Youmacon, Ohayocaon, Colossalcon, Shuto-con, Midwest Media Expo, Anime Weekend Atlanta, Motor City Comic Con, as well a few smaller events. Locally in the "Mitten", she once ran with the now disbanded/mostly dissolved Michigan Cosplayer Society (MCS).
Also formerly an active as a member of the local Michiganstucks (Michigan Homestucks), lovingly known as Mama Karkat and Con Mama. While thou has since stepped back from an active role, one still chats with and keeps up with the community. Raiji is also is part of the The Real Cosplayers of Detroit, SEMI-Cos, Michigan Cosplayers, Capitol Steam, and the Michigan Whovian Doctor Who Cosplay Group. Thou is also one of the admins of MIBJD (a MI Ball Joint Doll Community) and founder of the Cosplayer's Alliance. Raiji is also part of the Harry Potter Alliance Michigan Chapter. If you want to find your own local chapter for that, you can learn more at the Harry Potter Alliance (HPA).
Since mid 2018, Miss Raiji has become involved with and a semi active member of the Jedi Council of Michigan, where at the moment she mainly cosplay’s a Dark Side Padme (Darth Eris) and fan/Eastern styled take of Meetra Surik, the Jedi Exile.
Out of Michigan, one is part of the relatively decent sized Star Trek group that does rounds at AWA, known lovingly as: I Survived Jim Kirk's Captaincy: The AWA Star Trek Cosplay Group. As of 2017, Miss Raiji has retired AWA, though still chats with those friends she has made with this group.
Raiji has also been interviewed twice by UK blogs as part of Cosplayer Spotlights….
One a few years back (I'd say maybe in 2010-ish?) for Animetion UK and one back in June of 2014 for GeekOutSW. Sadly it seems the one for GeelOutSW has since been either archived or removed...:(
Though feel free to go check out the Animetion one...
