If you weren't awake during the early morning of March 14th, 2025, this is what the Blood Moon looked like around 2:00AM.

The term "Blood moon" describes how the Moon looks during a total lunar eclipse. This happens when the Moon is completely covered by the Earth's shadow because the Earth has moved between the Moon and the Sun, this blocks the Sun's light from reaching the Moon. When this happens the Moon looks red in color.

If you have seen Totality during a Total Solar Eclipse, and a Blood Moon during a Lunar Eclipse, then congratulations, because you have now experienced both ends of an Eclipse. During Totality, the Moon is eclipsing the Earth, casting a shadow and allowing us to see the Corona, whereas during a Lunar Eclipse, WE are eclipsing the moon, and this turns the Moon a shade of red.
