We have a 2001 Carver 356 Aft Cabin. We had our engines rebuilt over the winter. The engines are Mercruiser 6.2L MPI MX inboards. We have about 10 hours on the engines and changed the oil to take out the break in oil and put in the stuff we will be running on a regular basis.
Started out for the day. Got in about 2 hours of run time and the tach on the starboard engine started jumping really badly. The engine then would start to lose power and finally cut out. Tried to start the engine again and the tach immediately started jumping again.
As soon as the engine was cold again, it started and ran fine. Once the engine warmed up to a normal run temp (NOTE: The engine is NOT overheating) the tach would start jumping again. We went back to the marina on one engine and only started up the starboard to be able to dock. Starts and run awesome as long as it is cold. As soon as it got up to running temp, the tach would start jumping and lose power and then quit.
Things we tried while on the water - replaced the fuel filter, replaced the coil wire, replaced the coil
Potential additional options - replace the Optical sensor, replace the ECM
