OG Cache Valley Drifters
I’m Satisfied With You
Live at McCabe’s Guitar Shop 1984
Hey everybody,
Here’s one of the newly released songs by Craft Recording of the OG Cache Valley Drifters performing live at McCabe’s Guitar Shop, Santa Monica 1984.
This particular song is extremely indicative of the sound of that band. A unique sound, unparalleled and uncopied by anybody except OG CVD…;O)
The story of that gig will be forthcoming soon. It’s a good one. Cheers everybody…!

The Sorrow Of Saying Goodbye
OG CACHE VALLEY DRIFTERS
From “The Brand New Cache Valley Drifters” FF081
We folks at Ranch Recording are in the middle of trying to retrieve OG Cache Valley Drifters’ three albums which were originally released on Flying Fish Records; the music is now owned by Craft Recordings a subsidiary of Universal Music. The project is going well but it’s been a long and torturous multi-year journey. Our music was completely out of print and lost.
This song is from our first album and was the first song I wrote.
I don’t know if I wrote it about my girlfriend or my mom or my dad but love the song anyway…just a kid of sixteen but definitely feeling it.
Part of the process of retrieving our music has to do with remastering from our LPs. Apparently the master tapes don’t exist anymore or are unfindable. I think I know where they are, but I’m not saying anything lol.
It doesn’t matter because Lurssen Mastering in Los Angeles is doing an an amazing job with this project. We can’t thank them enough for their good work good vibe and professionalism.…hope you folks like the music.

The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea
OG Cache Valley Drifters
Live at McCabe’s 1979
We were truly a unique group of musicians, trekkies, hippies and deadheads who loved playing the music we grew up with distilled into our own unique acoustic style. It was a form of Drifterology and the whole thing worked very well; lots of groove, rhythm and solos.
The rhythmic core and leaders of the band had always been Bill, David, and me.
We presented a unique, two guitar attack. David is a fingerpicker and I was a Fender medium flatpicker.
It was conventional wisdom at the time that two guitars couldn’t work together in an acoustic setting. Barriers were being broken though, and we were right at the front of it.
Dave and I studiously avoided hanging out on the same part of the neck together. Sometimes for volume and dynamics we would pound the lower strings, but generally, we tried to stay out of each other‘s way. This applied to groove as well. We developed horn lines, fills, and solos that filled all of our musical space nicely.
For his part, Bill was a real hammer and kept incredible time. He also had a very aggressive solo style which probably borrowed more from rock ‘n’ roll than bluegrass. His chop was the best. He had perfect ex*****on and rhythm; similar to Max Weinberg’s snare work.
Then we ran into Tom Lee who was our match made in heaven. Tom perfectly understood what we were trying to accomplish and fit into all the corners that were empty and waiting for him. He matched Bill for incredible rhythm, but played a little bit more relaxed. This created a great groove which we all rode.
The band loved to dip into rock ‘n’ roll, reggae, lots of bluegrass, country, and folk. Somewhere along the line, we started listening to the music that our parents loved and got heavy into swing. This chestnut is one of the greats.
