🚀 Excited to share my first bilingual children’s book, now live on Kindle!

Coach M. Teaches Animals Gymnastics: Lesson 1 – Stretching Exercises (English/Spanish Edition)

👉 Read on Amazon

This book is the start of a series where animals guide children (and parents) through simple, lifelong movement skills. It was inspired by my years as a gymnastics coach and shaped by experiences across Mexico and the U.S.

💡 Why this book?

Combines fitness + language learning (English/Spanish).

Encourages kids to love movement, stretching, and play.

Designed for families, educators, and anyone who believes sport can transcend borders and build confidence.

Co-authored with Tina McCrory (CCC-SLP), our book blends fun storytelling with professional guidance to create a resource that supports both health and communication skills.

If you have children, teach, or simply love learning through play, I’d be honored if you’d give it a read—or share it with someone who would.

Why is Mexico Losing to the MLS and Other Leagues Around the World? Will a Coaching Change Help?

The reason for Mexico's struggles in soccer is clear. Quick fixes rarely yield sustainable results in sports. Doping an athlete is no different from undermining a national team by relying on foreign talent. This practice sends a message to local athletes that they need to improve.

Globally, soccer has advanced, surpassing Mexico's status as a dominant football country. Here are my observations on why Mexico has fallen behind:

1. "Misallocation of Resources": Historically, soccer was Mexico's primary sport. As the sport grew, wealthy Mexican families directed resources to make their children the next stars. This is very similar to the Golf and Tennis phenomena in the US. This resulted in a system filled with talented players in Liga MX but not natural stars. Mediocrity sells tickets, as fans hope their team will win and their child will become a professional. However, this system is rigged against those without financial means. Besides baseball, which also requires significant resources to succeed, Mexico needs programs that nurture talent from inner cities or farms.

2. "Lack of Government Support for Grassroots Talent": In the US, stars like Michael Jordan emerged from modest backgrounds. Mexico needs programs that offer similar opportunities. The government invests in untested foreign programs instead of funding local clubs to develop top talent, Neglecting the raw, hungry talent in poorer areas. The focus remains on benefiting the wealthy while ignoring those who could excel with proper support.

3. "Ineffective Pro League and Pay-to-Play System": Mexico's attempt to emulate the MLS by finding global Mexican talent has been unsuccessful. The pay-to-play model highlights those who can afford it but does not build a robust talent pipeline. To attract sponsors, Mexico needs new, young stars from within the country, not those developed elsewhere. For example, Barcelona promotes young, local talent, which drives the future of its soccer base. Mexico must adopt a similar approach, fostering homegrown stars to succeed.

In conclusion, more than a mere coaching change will be needed to solve the underlying issues. Mexico needs systemic changes to support and develop local talent and provide opportunities for all, regardless of their financial background.
