Minette Rushing Cakes
Minette Rushing in an internationally-renowned cake designer and educator.

With great sadness, I am sharing that my beloved best friend, Minette Rushing passed away peacefully December 27, 2025, at 5:37am after a short illness.
A renowned wedding cake designer, Minette’s sugar flower artistry was the signature detail of countless weddings and celebrations for celebrities, athletes, prominent Southern families and especially her cherished friends. There was not an event in my family that did not include a Minette Rushing cake.
Minette was a passionate educator who was wildly generous with her time and talent. Hundreds of you spent time in her kitchen studio honing the craft and learning the business. She wanted her students to master pricing as much as a David Austin rose or hydrangea. Minette was adamant that your business serve your life and not the other way around. She shared her philosophy and love of clients freely through her social media accounts.
Her loyal and supportive friendship knew no boundaries, and how lucky was I to be a beneficiary. When she wasn’t in her kitchen studio creating, you could find her on a cruise ship or cuddling with her cats. She is survived by her precious son Jon and treasured husband Jim and hundreds of us who have celebrated life’s moments with a Minette Rushing cake. She is now reunited with her daughter Lizzie, and I know they are drinking V***e and eating a slice of pink champagne cake.
Baking was her love language. The world just lost a little of its sweetness.
XOXO

Presentation is everything! It can make or break the cake. Here are some random thoughts from my Covid brain, in no particular order:
1) Tablecloths…or as Mama would say, “children should be seen not heard.” Change out children and replace with tablecloth and there you go! The cloth should be a subtle nod to the cake, not overwhelm it.
2 Decorating the cake table. Whatever is put on the cake table, besides the cake should complement the cake, not distract from it. Toasting flutes, cutting knife, plate and napkin…of course. The picture of Memaw and Papa dressed in their wedding finery should go on the sideboard, not the cake table.
3.Last but not least, let’s talk about fresh flowers on the table. I love fresh flowers and they dress up the cake table beautifully OR they can be tall and unruly and hide the cake🤷♀️ not a fan.
This week’s newsletter, “Company & Cake” I will be writing about working with the planners to create a beautiful wedding cake presentation.
