In May the people of North Plains decisively rejected a plan to import Portland-style urban sprawl to their community, with all of the problems that come with it, such as homelessness, crime, and drug abuse.
I was proud to be the only major party candidate to openly support them in their efforts to keep Portland's problems in Portland and out of their backyard. Despite over 70 percent of the voters rejecting the City's urban sprawl proposal, the politicians, bureaucrats, and special interests are already back to work planning on how to circumvent the people.

If elected State Representative, I will introduce legislation limiting the number of times a City can seek to increase it's Urban Growth Boundary in a 5-Year time span once voters have rejected such a proposal. Bureaucrats, special interests, and politicians should not be able to waste taxpayer time and money on repeatedly seeking to sale a policy to its citizens that they simply are not buying.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July celebration! It is truly awe inspiring to think that nearly 250 years ago our founding fathers felt their fortunes and liberties so threatened by the whims of a distant and unaccountable Monarchy that they rebelled against, and eventually repelled, the strongest imperial power in the world at that time.

I sometimes wonder what the founding fathers would think of the outrageous tax burden that is now put on the wages, property, and productive capital of the middle class? Or the constant erosion of our civil liberties at the behest of the Deep State or at the hands of an unaccountable and corrupt Supreme Court? Or the censorship of political speech, by private corporations, working at the direction of government authorities?

While I can't say for sure, I think it would be a safe guess that they would be disappointed that the legacy of freedom and opportunity they bequeathed us has been gradually chipped away with so little resistance. Not resistance through arms, but through the political process and rights that their efforts secured for us nearly two and a half centuries ago. We owe it to the founders, no matter how much our political culture has degenerated and disgusts us, to engage in the process, get involved, and vote!

This 4th of July I hope that everyone has good times with friends and family, but once the celebrations are over, all the hot dogs eaten, and the the fireworks cleaned up, I hope that we all will wake up the next day energized and prepared to stand-up, participate in our democracy, and fight for our rights as Americans!

The actions by the City Government of North Plains to block ALL public comment from their constituents on social media is sadly part of a growing trend in our State. Clearly decided in retaliation for voters overwhelmingly rejecting their proposed Urban Growth expansion, City Officials decided to shut down one of the largest public forums for their citizens to express their concerns to their elected officials and share information with their neighbors. It is clear what is going on, despite any obfuscations they might put forward.

In the United States of America, governmental bodies should not be allowed to prohibit citizens from sharing their constitutionally protected opinions. That is why, if elected in House District 31, I will introduce legislation which will give local governments a choice: either allow public comment from your constituents or shut down your social media accounts altogether. Governmental communication cannot be a one-way street in a Constitutional Democracy!

The fight against Urban Sprawl isn't about prohibiting the development of badly needed housing, but standing-up for the rights of citizens to determine WHAT type of projects come into their communities, WHERE they will be located, and HOW they are to be developed.

Our quality of life should not be put at the mercy of speculative developers, amoral Wall Street hedge funds, and greedy Portland slumlords. I urge the good people of North Plains to vote NO on the proposed Urban Growth Boundary expansion and proudly declare that YOUR TOWN IS NOT FOR SALE! If elected to serve as your State Representative, I will always fight for the rights of our citizens and make sure their voices are TRULY heard in Salem.
