This is your preseason checklist:
✅Conditioning: Check.
✅Equipment: Check.
✅ECG screening: Don’t skip this one.

Florida’s new ECG requirement applies to first-time high school athletes in grades 9-12 this season. The screening takes less than 5 minutes, it doesn’t hurt, and it could catch something your physical may miss.

Small electrode patches are placed on the chest to record the heart’s electrical signals. No needles, no blood work, no radiation.

Get screened before August. Find locations and book at the link in our bio.

She was 14. She collapsed after swim practice.

Her mom thought she was dehydrated. The coaches told her to push through.

Sarah had a hidden heart condition no one knew about and it almost took her life.

Today? She’s a student at FSU. Proof that early screening saves lives.

Starting July 1st, Florida’s Second Chance Act requires an ECG for every first-time high school athlete before they can play.

The good news: free and low-cost community screenings are already happening across the state, and spots are filling fast.

Florida’s new ECG requirement takes effect in less than 60 days. Here’s what your school needs to know before July 1.

The Second Chance Act requires all first-time high school student-athletes in grades 9-12 to have a qualifying ECG on file before their first practice, tryout, or conditioning session of the 2026-2027 school year.

No ECG on file means no clearance.
That applies to every sport at every school.

A lot of families have never seen an ECG screening before. Here’s exactly what it looks like.

Step 1: Your child lies down. About 30 seconds to get settled.
Step 2: A trained technician places small electrode patches on the chest. No needles. No discomfort.
Step 3: The device records the heart’s electrical activity in about 16 seconds.
Step 4: Done. The whole screening is under 5 minutes.
Step 5: Results are reviewed by a board-certified cardiologist and returned within 10 business days.

That’s it. That’s the whole process.

Florida’s Second Chance Act requires this for first-time high school athletes before the 2026-2027 season.

Your child passed their physical, but that doesn’t mean their heart got a full check.

The standard sports physical can miss up to 90% of young people at risk for sudden cardiac arrest. An ECG takes less than 5 minutes, involves nothing more than a few small electrode patches on the chest, and is now part of Florida’s pre-participation screening for first-time high school athletes in Florida.

Florida’s Second Chance Act goes into effect July 1. Find out what’s required, where to get screened, and how to make sure your child is cleared before the season starts.

Some moms turn grief into action.

Martha lost her son to sudden cardiac arrest. Instead of stepping back, she stepped forward. She founded and became one of the strongest voices in the country for youth heart screening.

Her story is part of why Florida passed the Second Chance Act, a law that takes effect July 1, 2026, requiring ECG screening for first-time high school student-athletes in Florida.

This is why CARDEA 20/20® exists. Not just as a device.
As a commitment that fewer families have to live what Martha lived.

Schools, pediatricians, and community partners: don’t wait until the deadline. The 2026–27 school year is closer than it looks, and every screened heart is a story that doesn’t end too soon.

This is what a CARDEA 20/20® screening actually looks like at a school.👇

No needles. No hospital visit. No stress.

A student lies down, the device records their heart’s electrical activity in as little as 5 minutes, and the recording is reviewed by a physician trained in athlete ECG interpretation.

Start to finish: under 10 minutes per student. Every first-time high school athlete. Every FHSAA-sanctioned sport. One simple screening that could change everything.

Coaches, school administrators, athletic directors, school nurses: this is what a school screening program can look like — fast, simple, and built for the athletes you serve.

Parents: ask your child’s school if a screening is already scheduled. If they don’t have an answer, that’s your sign to push.

Up to 80% of young athletes who die from sudden cardiac arrest had no warning signs beforehand.🫀

No symptoms. No family history flagged at their last physical. Nothing that would have told a parent, a coach, or a doctor to look closer.
That’s not rare. That’s up to 8 out of 10.

A standard physical was never designed to catch this. It checks your child’s body. It cannot read their heart.
An ECG can, and starting July 1st in Florida, every first-time high school athlete is required to have one before they can compete.

The CARDEA 20/20® was built specifically for this screening.
✅ Under 10 minutes.
✅ Non-invasive.
✅ Designed for young, athletic hearts.
