So, this has been eating away at me for a very long time now. I didn’t know how to bring it up or if I should even talk about it. But, when I woke up this morning I realized I can’t hold it in anymore. I have to get it off my chest.

Since last year, there’s been an influx of crochet resellers popping up in Seattle. What are resellers? They are vendors who buy crocheted items in bulk from foreign countries and then resell them here locally, while claiming to have handmade everything themselves.

My biggest problem with this? The lies they tell.

These people know that Seattle loves to support local artists. They know it sells better when it’s handmade, and they are taking advantage of that mindset.

I’ve been told from people in the know: “Genna, you should just buy crochet to resell and tell shoppers you made it. That’s how other people do it. They also know how to crochet, but they only make a little bit to sell. The rest they just buy wholesale. It’s easier that way,”

Yes, I know it’s “easier”. But, it’s also disgusting. I will never lie and claim to have handmade something I didn’t. I have never done so in the past and I never will in the future. As a fiber artist, that is a line that I will never cross.

I understand there’s competition in every field and I’m not here to ruin anyone’s business. So, I won’t mention names or point any fingers. But, I feel I have a responsibility to bring this to the attention of my audience. You follow me for a reason, whether it’s because you appreciate my work or you want to support a local artist. I know those things are important to you.

The issue with crochet resellers has troubled me for some time now. I struggled between giving up or trudging forward. And I’ve finally decided I want to continue crocheting. But, due to the current climate of the market and for personal health reasons, I need to slow down and take care of myself first. So for the time being, I won’t be crocheting as much as I used to, and will dedicate more time towards growing . But, I will still be here and I will share updates as new pieces are created. Thank you for your patience and continued support. I am forever grateful ❤️
