How It Works:
Step 1: Tar and chip can be applied right over an existing base, such as blacktop, concrete, or gravel.
Step 2: A 1/4-inch layer of hot liquid asphalt (tar) is applied on top of the base, binding the base to the stone chips and acting as a water seal.
Step 3: A layer of loose stone is spread over the hot tar and raked to cover.
Step 4: The stones are embedded into the tar with a rolling machine.
