SPRINGFIELD, VA (June 4, 2026) – Springfield South County Youth Club (SYC) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Omid Namazi as the club’s new Senior Girls Academy Technical Advisor.

Namazi, who currently serves as the Head Coach for the professional women’s side DC Power, brings an unparalleled 26 years of elite coaching pedigree to SYC. His extensive resume spans the highest levels of the sport, including head coaching roles in the NWSL, WUSA, WPS, and USL Championship, as well as top assistant coaching roles with both the U.S. Women’s National Team and Major League Soccer (MLS).

This landmark hiring comes at a monumental time for SYC, as the club enters its third year in the prestigious Girls Academy (GA) and prepares to compete in the Girls Academy Champions Cup alongside the top 24 clubs in the country.

Elevating the Player Pathway
In his new role, Namazi will have a direct, strategic influence on the development of high-level female athletes within SYC. The Senior Girls Academy Technical Advisor position serves as a premier leadership role designed to shape the club’s performance pathway, elevate competitive standards, and boost collegiate placement opportunities. Namazi will bring elite mentorship, credibility, and technical insight, fostering deep connections with SYC players, families, and coaching staff.

A World-Class Resume
Namazi holds a prestigious U.S. Soccer Pro Coaching License. His extensive professional and international background includes:
• International Level: Five years with the U.S. Soccer Federation as an Assistant Coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team, Head Coach for the U-18 Men’s National Team, and Assistant Coach for the U-20 Men’s National Team. He also served as an Assistant Coach for the Iran Men’s National Team, helping guide them to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
• Professional Leagues: Head Coach for the Chicago Stars FC (NWSL/WPS) and Hartford Athletic (USL Championship). Assistant Coach for the Houston Dynamo (MLS).
• Accolades: Named MISL Coach of the Year in back-to-back seasons (2005 and 2006).
• Playing Career: A standout 19-year professional playing career, winning championships with the Washington Diplomats (1988) and Maryland Bays (1990), alongside being named MISL Defender of the Year in 2001 and 2002.
