DOCARE CELEBRATES AMERICA 250 🇺🇸
Today DOCARE honors the service of Harvey “Jack” Whisman
Jack entered the United States Air Force in 1952 and was released from active service in 1956. He was honorably discharged in 1960 as an Airman first class.
During his time in USAF he was a member of the 314th Supply Squadron. He spent service time in Belgium and France, and was stationed at the Sewart Air Force Base in Tennessee when he completed his service in 1956.
He received a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Jack also earned his GED from the United States Armed Forces Institute.
Following the USAF, Jack married and raised a family in Michigan. He and his wife Marie also served as foster parents, touching the lives of many children, several of whom stayed in contact with them long into adulthood.
He worked for General Motors until his retirement. After retirement, Jack volunteered his time to his Nazarene church, organizations such as RESPITE, and for the local hospital, where he drove the courtesy shuttle assisting patients and visitors.
Jack Whisman embodied the spirit of the DOCARE mission, always willing to help, even when not asked, even when it was difficult.
