Three cheers for these three SJHI Youth Volunteers Claire, Molly and Jojo! The Summer Landscaping crew was out in full effect today, mowing yards, w**d wacking, raking, and helping us ensure SJHI houses under renovation remain neat and tidy as they undergo their transformations into homes for first-time low and moderate income families. We are so grateful to these young leaders and their commitment to being a part of positive work in the community.
We like to say “when the drywall is going in, we are rounding the corner.” This home has undergone a huge renovation: it had a collapsed stairwell, needed all new systems and a roof. It actually needed a full gut to the basement! But now we’re rounding the corner and soon this house will be a Home- an opportunity for a first-time homebuyer of low-moderate income to attain the dream of homeownership

We are SO excited about this… new manhole cover? You bet we are! Located in front of one of our properties under construction, we noticed this sewer cover that was dislodged and very unstable. So we called the Citizens Service Bureau, who helpfully referred us to The Metropolitan Sewer District. We then called MSD, and reported the hazard. They came out almost immediately, checked it, and fixed it right away! SO Grateful to MSD, Dutchtown Alderman Shane Cohn, and all our City of St. Louis workers at the Citizens Service Bureau who field calls like this daily.
One step closer! This renovation is progressing at SJHI’s house under renovation on Idaho Ave. Soon, this will provide an opportunity for a low to moderate income family to become a first time homeowner🏡
