The Leviathan brain trust’s annual outing to Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park was one of the most memorable yet. The best Tempest we’ve ever seen on stage! You have six more chances to see St. Louis Shakespeare Festival before the production closes, so don’t delay!

Join Leviathan Bookstore and for the silliest, smartest boozy book fair there’s ever been! On Monday, June 8 we’ll all raise a glass in honor of Christopher Marlowe, the original Elizabethan bad boy. Poet, playwright, and spy, his radical life and art launched a literary movement that’s lasted more than 400 years. Actors will declaim his verse, musicians will sing his songs, and the rest of us will down specialty cocktails courtesy of Truckey. Learn more about Marlowe’s remarkable story so we can properly toast his eternal memory and the eternal damnation of his foul murderers! Spread the word to every theater kid, double agent, and bar-fly you know!

Thanks to Brian at for helping us find good homes for a whole bunch of unsaleable scratched and dented books!

So yeah, you knew we were going to be stocking the newest picture book by from because we have the market cornered on all things Leviathan. But wow! Like Moby Dick himself, this surpasses all expectations. The illustrations are staggeringly good, and the text (translated by ) is accessible and profound to readers of all ages. It’s a tribute to the Great American Novel that truly makes it feel new.

Well, look at that—we made the list! We’re one of five finalists for ‘s A-List as Best Bookstore. Not bad for this upstart!

It’s an honor just being nominated, blah blah blah, but we’re not so humble that we wouldn’t mind winning. Vote daily for us if you can!

An era has ended. When we went to the bank this week we were told that we couldn’t get any more pennies. While we support the deprecation of America’s lowest-denomination coin (it’s literally the only action by the current federal administration we agree with) we can’t help but be a little sad.

Once these little guys in our cash drawer are gone, we’ll be rounding off all cash purchases made in the store. We’ll miss you, Abe in profile. The Copper Age is over.

Join us on Tuesday, May 12 to celebrate the publication of On and On by Eric Von Schrader, a mystical morality tale for our time, set in a hilariously dysfunctional, amoral corporation, where one brave soul is trying to survive while holding on to her convictions.

You can reserve an autographed copy online through our event page (link in bio), but walk-ins are also welcome!

Author .fehrman stopped by today to sign copies of This Vast Enterprise, his new book about the Lewis and Clark expedition, which happens to be one of our favorite reads of 2026. When we recommended it in our newsletter, we said this about it:

“The American Odyssey of Lewis and Clark has been sorely overdue for reappraisal, and there’s no one better than Craig Fehrman to give us that fresh, full, much-needed take. At last this story is being told from all sides, not as a one-directional journey into terra incognita, but as an ongoing encounter of cultures equally deserving of attention and respect. Rotating through the perspectives of all parties concerned, from the leaders of the expedition to those they recruited, traded with, fought with, and even enslaved, the book is equally full of fact and feeling. The palpable sense of what it was like to be engaged in this vast enterprise has never been better expressed than it is here.”

Pick one up for Mother’s Day! Another for Father’s Day! And get one for yourself while you’re at it!

These carts hint at how much restocking we had to do after Independent Bookstore Day. Seemed like a great time was had by all, and since we shared a bit of everyone’s joy, we had the most fun by far! Hope to see more of you through the summer as you travel the state collecting stickers for you passport…
